Commissioned as a Mother's Day gift for a family member, this jewelry box features a rustic, clean, traditional design with robust dovetailed joinery and beautiful quartersawn white oak wood. Adapted from Paul Sellers' tool chest design, construction of the box is unique in that the lid and body are sawn apart only after the entire box is glued together This ensures that the box is glued squarely and that the wood grain is matching and continuous from the lid to the body. Opening the box reveals a large storage tray and hooks for hanging necklaces on the lid. The drawer is subdivided to allow storage and organization of smaller jewelry items. The box is finished with shellac and lined with felt. All joinery is done by hand with traditional hand tools.
